The Festival Experience
The US Festival only happens once a year and is a unique opportunity for Kadampa practitioners to gather from across the United States, creating a special environment of community and learning. The Festival is a special occasion to receive direct teachings from a qualified teacher, explore the depths of wisdom, and strengthen our practice of meditation. The wisdom we cultivate during these days will not only benefit our personal growth, but will also allow us to contribute to the well-being of others. Not only will we learn and contemplate new things, but the experience gives us an opportunity to transform our mind, deepen our inner peace and develop the compassion that connects us all.
The Venue
The US National Festival rotates between the International Kadampa Retreat Center Grand Canyon (Williams, AZ) and Kadampa Meditation Center New York (Glen Spey, NY).
This year the US Festival is taking place at KMC New York. KMC NY is the national center for Kadampa Buddhism in the US and houses the US World Peace Temple, which arose from the vision and compassionate intention of Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso. The temple was designed and built under his guidance to represent the celestial palace of Heruka, Buddha of Compassion. Its holy architecture, Buddha statues and unique artwork endow the structure with a tranquil beauty that uplifts us and inspires us. There is no better place to listen to teachings and meditate.
The temple is nestled in 82 acres of lush woodlands with quiet sitting places, streams, gardens, ponds and walking trails. The grounds offer a unique blend of spaces–perfect for communing with friends, engaging in heartfelt conversations, or enjoying the solitude of quiet trails.
Volunteering: A Collective Endeavor
Kadampa Festivals beautifully exemplifies the power of kind-hearted individuals coming together peacefully to achieve something truly meaningful. Nearly every aspect of the event thrives on the spirit of volunteerism from its attendees. From managing the parking lot, registration, and meals to running the café, shop, accommodations, and Temple activities, every detail is brought to life by dedicated volunteers. By contributing just a bit of their time, each person helps create a joyful experience for others while also reaping profound inner rewards—a true celebration of community and shared purpose.
Volunteer teams are organized by local Kadampa centers before the Festival begins. Please contact your local center for more information if you want to join in.
Come early or stay on after the US Festival as a Volunteer Visitor. It takes a dedicated team to prepare the site for hundreds of attendees and to clean-up afterwards. If you wish to help in this way, use the link below to apply for a Volunteer Visit.
